Student Performances

Sharing the gift of music with others is a wonderful way for students to grow as young musicians and be recognized for their progress. Students at New Mexico School of Music have many opportunities to perform throughout the year at the school and community venues, as well as national and international stages.

Please view the Calendar for 2023 concert dates.

Recitals

Winter and Spring Recitals showcase students on all instruments and voice from all teachers. A special Halloween Recital is held at the end of October featuring students performing in costume. Teachers also hold their own studio recitals at various times throughout the year. There is no fee for students to participate in school recitals.

Dennis Alexander Music Festival - April 15-16, 2023

NMSM has enjoyed a long relationship with internationally-renown pianist, teacher, and composer Dennis Alexander.  The Dennis Alexander Piano Competition was founded in 2010 by Tatiana Vetrinskaya and held at NMSM for ten years.  In 2023 NMSM will begin a new tradition by holding a festival of Mr. Alexander's music!  Pianists of all ages and levels love his engaging and entertaining compositions, and we look forward to this marathon event, and to honoring Mr. Alexander for his decades of service to students everywhere!

Student Honors Concerts

These events showcase talented NMSM students in concerts at exciting venues in the U.S. and internationally.  Recent concerts have included Carnegie Recital Hall in New York City (right), and the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Canada (top of page).  Students are nominated by their teachers to participate on these concerts, and attend performance classes and practice concerts at NMSM prior to the events.

In June, 2023 our students will perform at the Royal Academy of Music in London, England!

Adult Musical Cafe

Adult students have a special place at New Mexico School of Music! Some are beginners who have always wanted to learn an instrument. Others are returning to music after a long break, or accomplished amateurs improving their skills. The Adult Musical Cafe is an opportunity for all of them to share their music in an informal, no-pressure situation.

Community Outreach Performances

Spreading the joy of music throughout our community is a primary goal at the New Mexico School of Music. We are frequently asked by retirement homes and churches to hold concerts at their facilities.  La Vida Llena and The Neighborhood, retirement communities Albuquerque and Rio Rancho, partner with us for many events.

Golden Key Music Festival

The Golden Key Music Festival is designed to educate and inspire young musicians with annual performance and competitive events held in New York City and Vienna, Austria. Students audition for the program and, if selected, perform on some of the most prestigious stages in the world, while interacting with world-renowned artists and other young dedicated musicians.

Studio Classes

Selected teachers hold studio classes for their students several times per semester. Studio classes are a great opportunity for students to practice performing for each other without the pressure of a public performance. Teachers can also cover topics in a group setting more efficiently than in individual lessons.
