Violist Laura Manko Sahin has performed as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player throughout the UnitedStates, Europe, and the Middle East. She made her solo debut with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in 2005, and has subsequently won numerous solo competitions. Laura was formerly the Principal violist of the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra and violist of the Boston Harp Trio. She has performed with the Knoxville, and Winston-Salem Symphony Orchestras, as well as participated in the Institute for Contemporary Music, Heifetz MusicInstitute, Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, Meadowmount School of Music, Encore School for Strings, and Eastern Music Festival. As a member of the Stern String Quartet, she traveled across the United States and Austria performing recitals and concerts with the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra.
Laura completed her Doctor of Philosophy in Music from Bilkent University as a student of Ece Akyol. She earned her Artist Diploma and Master of Music from Boston University as a student and teaching assistant of Michelle LaCourse, and Bachelor of Music Degree from University of North Carolina School of the Arts as a student and teaching assistant of Sheila Browne. Laura has performed in master classes for such distinguished artists as Kim Kashkashian, Carol Rodland, Lawrence Dutton, Donald McInnes, Nokothula Nygwenyama, Pamela Frank, and the Vermeer, Miro, and Takacs String Quartets.
Laura recently moved to Albuquerque from Ankara, Turkey where she was playing with the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra, Bilkent Piano Quartet, and the Nodus Contemporary Music Ensemble. She was a string and chamber music faculty member at Bilkent University. As an advocate for youth music education, Laura has been on the string faculties of the Luzerne Music Center, Boston University Tanglewood Institute, Rivers School Conservatory, Boston School of Music Arts, and the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras.
