Joseph Mitchell is a native New Mexican, born and raised in the small city of Belen. He is currently pursuing his Bachelor's of Music Education with a Vocal Emphasis at the University of New Mexico and studies with Sam Shepperson. Mr. Mitchell is a member of the UNM's Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, and has performed solos including "Quia fecit mihi magna" from Bach's Magnificat and "Quoniam tu solus sanctus" from Bach's Mass in B Minor. He has appeared in the roles of Sarastro (cover) in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Frank in Strauss' Die Fledermaus, and Dulcamara in Donizetti's L'Elisir D'Amore with the UNM Opera Studio Program.
As a Music Ministry Intern at St. John's United Methodist, Joseph assists in the direction of the NewSound Children's Chorus and SonRise Youth Choir, as well as singing with the Chancel Choir. In addition, Joseph sings with the Zamir at Congregation Albert for their High Holy Days services each fall.
Joseph believes the ability to sing is within every person, if only they seek it out. He is excited for the opportunity to guide students of all ages as they discover and train their instrument at the New Mexico School of Music.
