John (Zheng) Yuan is a graduate of the University of the Nationalities-Bachelor of Music (Beijing, China), the University of Texas at Arlington-Performance Certificate, and Southern Methodist University-Performance Diploma (Dallas, Texas).
Mr. Yuan has had a teaching career that has spanned more than fifteen years and two continents. His teaching credits include the Central Conservatory of Beijing, Music School of Nationalities (Beijing), the Elite Performing Arts Center (Richardson, TX), and the Rochester Academy of Music and Arts (Rochester, NY) as well as public and private schools in Dallas-Fort Worth. Many of his students won violin and viola positions in All-State and Region Orchestras in Texas.
Zheng is an accomplished soloist, conductor, orchestral musician and chamber musician. Recent seasons have featured his appearances with the Dallas Quartet (violin and viola), the Lukens Chamber Ensemble (Philadelphia, PA), the Abilene Philharmonic, and the San Angelo and Las Colinas symphonies. He served as the Principal Violist of the Beijing Philharmonic before coming to the United States to complete his studies under full scholarship an assistantship. Under the auspices of the Chinese and American Symphony Orchestras, Zheng extensively toured China, France, Hong Kong, Macau and Puerto Rico.
Mr. Yuan is thrilled to be joining the faculty of the New Mexico School of Music, starting in the fall of 2014. He brings his rich experiences as a performer to his love of group and individual teaching. He offers lessons on violin, viola, and cello, using both traditional and Suzuki methods. Instruction in Mandarin and English is available upon request.
