Andrea Rutan holds a bachelor's degree in Viola Performance from the University of Memphis and is currently finishing up her Master’s in String Pedagogy at the University of New Mexico. With a focus on the Suzuki Method of teaching for violin and viola, Andrea also teaches a variation of styles from jazz to fiddle. She performs with the New Mexico Philharmonic, and has played with the Pueblo Symphony Orchestra and the Roswell Symphony.
She specializes in early childhood education with an emphasis on students with special needs. She has had success teaching students diagnosed with Autism and Down's Syndrome, and believes that anyone can play a musical instrument. In addition to teaching at NMSM and with the Young Musician’s Initiative, Andrea is a part time caretaker for children with special needs.
She loves being able to work with young minds on a daily basis!
Andrea lives in Albuquerque and loves to cook, bake, eat, and spend time with her dog.
